What Is a Medical Abortion?
A medical abortion is a process that utilizes a medication regimen to end a pregnancy. The medications used are called mifepristone and misoprostol.
- Mifepristone works by blocking an essential hormone to pregnancy called progesterone. When this medication is activated, it thins the uterine walls detaching the fetus from this organ.
- Misoprostol works by causing contractions that release pregnancy tissue from the uterus.
